A surprise in your YumBox: how to make the most of it

The best part of a YumBox is that you never know exactly what is inside. The partner fills it with whatever is left that day. So how do you make the most of that surprise?

Why the contents are a surprise

A YumBox is made up of whatever a food business still has at the end of the day. That changes per day, per season and per partner. Exactly because of this you rescue food that would otherwise be thrown away.

So do not expect a fixed package. One time your box is full of bread and pastries, another time you find vegetables, dairy or a ready meal. That unpredictability is the whole point.

How to prepare smartly

Since you do not know in advance what you will get, it helps to plan flexibly. Keep some space free in your fridge and think of a few simple base dishes that work with almost anything, like a soup, a bake, a stir fry or a frittata.

Bring a sturdy bag when you pick up, because a box can be fuller than you expect. If you chose delivery for a shelf stable or non food box, you simply follow your order through track and trace.

Picking up and cancelling in the app

Picking up is very simple. From thirty minutes before your pickup time you can swipe in the app at the counter to confirm your order. You do not need a code, QR or receipt, the swipe is enough.

Does it not work out after all? You can cancel up to two hours before the pickup time via the order in the app. That way your box still reaches someone else and nothing is wasted.

Leaving nothing behind after unpacking

At home it is smart to sort first: what do you eat today, what can wait until tomorrow and what goes in the freezer? Bread, pastries and many ready meals freeze well in handy portions.

Vegetables and fruit just past their best moment are ideal for soup, sauce or a smoothie. That way you make the most of the whole surprise and waste nothing.
